BIOGRAPHY

Junga Song was born in South Korea in 1977 and studied Marine Science but her true passion was to become a film director. After she immigrated to Canada, she studies film at Toronto Film School and graduated in 2004 and following the year, she was accepted to the post-graduate program, advanced film and Television at Sheridan College, where she wrote and directed several short films, documentaries and music videos.

Shortly after graduating, Junga wrote and directed a 45-minute documentary called Hope for Life dealing with the subject of brain injuries. The film was distributed to several hospitals in North America and served as a supporting document in passing a bill regarding helmet legislation. It also earned a special screening at the acquired brain injury annual conference.

After the success of her documentary, she made an 8-minute short film called Love Recipe that went on to screen at several major film festivals such as Montreal world film festivals and came in third place at the Canadian International Annual Film/Video Festival. This exposure spurred on her desire to shoot more short films such as Dead Origins (30 mins short film) and Reflection (shot with 35mm), which were also officially selected for screening at major Film Festivals internationally including Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

Soon after this success, Junga wrote and directed her first feature film, Piece of Mind, Completed in 2010, was invited to Manhattan Film Festival for its premier in 2012. Piece of Mind is available to iTunes, Google, Amazon and other VOD platforms, distributed by 108 Media.

In 2018 and 2019, she made two feature films, Artificial Selection and The Petrichor. Both films are in post-production, soon to be released.

The Petrichor

Maya is a former figure skater who, due to personal tragedy, fails her first two attempts at senior international competition. Inspired by her skating idol, Igor Rusky, she decides at the age of thirty, to get back on the ice and pursue her dream of competing once more. As she starts skating again, she is overcome with the painful memories of her past and develops a unique form of visualization, placing Igor Rusky into her old memories to replace pain with inspiration and giving her a chance to pursue her dreams.

Piece of Mind

Pax is an artist who suffers from schizophrenia. He believes he sees threatening ghosts and spends his life either pretending to not see them, or protecting those he feels may be at risk. His control over his pretense is lessening with every new interaction he has with the ghosts, and he runs the risk of being institutionalized if he can’t get a grip on his erratic behaviour and descends into madness.
